Bushehr expects bumper date, off-season tomato harvestsc
Bushehr – Iran’s southern province of Bushehr is projected to harvest more than 230,000 tons of dates and produce up to 700,000 tons of off-season tomatoes this year, the head of the provincial Agricultural Organization said.
Morteza Bahrani said the province’s hot and humid climate is a defining feature of its agricultural conditions, making it well suited to the production of dates, aquatic products and off-season tomatoes, which are also among its key export commodities.
He said more than 230,000 tons of dates are expected to be harvested from Bushehr’s palm groves this year, marking several-percent growth in both production and exports compared with last year, while the quality of the crop is also expected to improve.
Bahrani added that production of off-season tomatoes is projected at between 680,000 and 700,000 tons under this year’s production plans.
“The output is expected to help secure domestic tomato supplies during the cold season, particularly when low temperatures restrict tomato production in other parts of the country.”
